The DA has a critical role in shaping public safety in our community. This includes:

  • Coordinating with law enforcement and the local government to ensure resources and manpower are used in a safe, effective, and responsible manner.

  • Partnering with community-based providers and supporting their growth to create long-term solutions that address the root causes of crime.

  • Centering all communication and decision-making around evidence, facts, and a focus on the well-being of the community, as opposed to political pressure, fear, and unsupported assumptions.

The DA makes important decisions regarding how criminal cases are handled. This includes:

  • Whether to accept or reject a particular case.

  • What charges to bring if a case is accepted.

  • What values to center when prosecuting a case, like fairness, transparency, and accountability.

  • What interests to prioritize when prosecuting like long-term public safety concerns.

  • When it is necessary to seek incarceration or another form of removal from society.

The DA has a responsibility to pursue transparency, accountability, and reform, inside and beyond the courthouse. This includes:

  • Ensuring that the outcomes sought in a case do not compromise individual rights, common sense, and human dignity.

  • Keeping the public informed about the state of public safety in the community and inviting all to participate in improving it.

  • Pursuing critical reforms to improve public safety, fairness in the system, and honor individual rights, and standing up to the legislature, law enforcement, the judiciary, and the media when it opposes progress.
